- Mace
- A one-handed blunt weapon favored by Crusaders.
- Mad Pleagius
- A modern Breton festival held in mock honor of the most eccentric of the Septim Emperors, Pelagius Septim III.
The Bretons like to boast that it was his time in High Rock that drove him mad.
- Mage
- The mage is the standard class for those studying the schools of magic. Indeed, behind
fighters, Mages are the second most common profession in all of Tamriel. Instead of
concentrating on one or two specific spell schools they practice all 6 schools of magic,
taking parts from each that they like. Becoming a mage is the more difficult task one can
partake since it requires many years of study with a high intelligence and willpower being an asset.
- Mage, The
- One of the 13 major constellation birthsigns. Those born under the Mage have more Magicka than average.
- Mane
- A unique breed of Khajiit although no more special than any of the other varieties. Khajiit tradition
holds that only one Mane can be alive at one time and, more specifically, believe that there is actually
only one Mane who is reborn again and again in different bodies. There has been no recorded incident of
more that one Mane contending for power, although whether due to the truth in the Khajiit belief or
whether the ruling Mane takes care of any potential rivals is unknown. Manes can only be born under
a rare alignment of the moons Masser and Secunda when, according to legend, a third moon actually appears.
In older days the Khajiit would shave off their manes in deference to the Mane, braiding them into
locks which the Mane would incorporate into his own mane. As the population grew, however, this became
inpratical although the Khajiit still remove their manes and the current Mane still wears the hair of
his tribe and Warrior Guard which includes several hundred in number. The Mane is so weighted down by the
hair that movement is difficult without aid and he often travels the countryside by means of
a palanquin.
- Maormer
- A rare tropical Elf found on the island kingdom of Pyandonea, to the south of the Summerset Isles.
The Maormer have probably never travelled to the rest of Tamriel as they were exiled from the main
Elven kingdom in ancient times. They are known for a strange, chameleon like skin which is an
unconcious ability much like the forest skills of the Bosmer. Maormer practice a powerful form of
snake magic and use it to tame the sea serpents of the island for use as mounts and warbeasts.
- Marksman
- This stealth skill makes you more effective with ranged weapons like the short bow, long bow, crossbow, throwing star
and throwing knife. The skill is governed by the user's agility (MW Manual).
- Marukh's Day
- A local High Rock holiday on the 9th of Second Seed, is a solemn holiday, immortalizing the lessons
of the equally solemn 1st Era prophet Marukh.
- Masser
- One of Tamriel's two moons (the other named Secunda).
- Medium Armor
- This combat skill lets you move and defend while wearing durable but flexible armors like chain, scale, bonemold, and Orcish
armor. To use any style of armor effectively, the wearer must be trained, conditioned, and skilled in its use.
The skill is governed by the user's endurance (MW Manual).
- Mer
- Refers to a single elf. Note the use of the word in Aldmer (elves in general), Bosmer (wood elf), Dunmer
(Dark Elf), and Altmer (High Elf). Words that designate an Elven member of a profession or trade can be
correctly called, for example, craftsmer or noblemer.
- Mercantile
- This stealth skill is the art of buying low and selling high. This skill guarantees lower initial prices for goods, equipment,
serives, and improves your chances at better deals by bargaining. The skill is governed by the user's personality (MW Manual).
- Monk
- Monks are the rare warriors who disdain the use of weapons and armor for comabt in preference
of hand-to-hand and mind training. Indeed, many have fallen to these seemingly defenseless and
unarmed warriors in battle. Monks must be strong and hardy and have above average determination
in order to survive effectively.
- Moon Festival
- A local holiday on the 8th of Suns Dusk in Glenumbra Moors, just as the nights begin to get longer,
celebrating the ancient goddess of the moons, Secunda.
- Moon-Sugar
- A substance, native to the Tendar Forest in southern Elsweyr, which the Khajiits believe is a gift
from the gods. The sugar has a variety of uses including seasoning, magical ingrediant, communion
with the holy moons, as well as a dangerous and addicting drug. Khajiits understand the sugar as
crystallized moonlight caught in the water of the Topal Sea and brought to the sugarcane groves
of trhe Tenmar by the force of the twin tides. By partaking of the sugar Khajiit believe they are consuming
portions of their god's souls, driving them into fits of ecstacy and abandon. Catmen shivering in the streets
can be seen in most major cities in Elsweyr. A more dangerous derivative of the sugar, skooma
is often smoked in raw form by the more pathetic Khajiit who are addicted for life and experience constant
states of euphoria and lethargy. Moon-sugar is an important part of any Khajiit's life and is Elsweyr's
main export. It should be noted that non-Khajiitians are usually more susceptible to the effects of the
sugar and should avoid it.
- Moot
- A board of representatives from each Hold in a land convened to choose the next King from any
qualified members of the royal family. The failure of the Moot to appoint the obvious choice of Jarl Hanse of
Winterhold after the death of King Borgas sparked the Skyrim War of Succession which lasted a good
50 years and shrunk the Skyrim empire considerably. From that point the Moot was convened only when a
King died without direct heirs and has caused no similar problems yet.
- Moriche
- Another name for Dark Elves.
- Morrowind
- Province which is home to the Dark Elf.
- Chapter 3 in the main Elder Scrolls CRPG series,
sequel to Daggerfall. For more info jump to The UESP: Morrowind
page.
- Mysticism
- Mysticism is the school of magic least understood by the magical community,
most difficult to explain to novices mages. The spells effects commonly ascribed to the School of Mysticism are
as wildly disparate as Soul Trap -- the creation of a cell for a victim's spirit after death -- to Silence -- the
extinction of sound. But these effects are simply that: effects. The sorcery behind them is veiled in a mystery
that may go back to the oldest civilizations of Tamriel, and beyond. ( taken from Mysticism: Unfathomable Voyage )
- This magic skill shapes and focuses otherworldly forces to bind souls in gems, teleport the caster's body, manipulate the
world with telekinesis, absorb or reflect magical energies, or sense unseen objects at a distance.
The skill is governed by the user's willpower (MW Manual).
